SSC's NFS Server Solution
DiskShare enables Windows workstations and servers to perform as NFS servers, so you can share files among UNIX workstations, PCs, or other NFS-based client systems. Excelling in speed and integration, DiskShare provides you unequaled ease, security, and performance. DiskShare has many features that make it easy-to-use -- including icons, object-oriented menus, and online help. It's the only server product on the market that provides NFS sharing directly from Windows My Computer, File Manager, or Explorer interfaces.
Multithreaded, 32-bit Kernel-Mode Operation
The 32-bit Windows operating system is a powerful multitasking environment, but single-threaded processes cannot take advantage of this capability. DiskShare is a multithreaded design that gives you optimum performance and ensures compatibility. Implemented as a kernel-mode service, it runs at the most privileged CPU mode (ring 0)
Native TCP/IP Ensures Compatibility
DiskShare takes advantage of Microsoft's native TCP/IP stack to assure maximum performance and compatibility. Using Microsoft's native protocol stack provides quicker installation, guarantees the fewest compatibility problems with third-party applications, and ensures the broadest support for industry network adapters.
Network Security Isn't an Afterthought
DiskShare is designed to work with Windows security, so the system administrator can easily create or modify NFS user accounts and then associate them with local or domain-based Windows accounts. DiskShare then relies on the Windows user file to manage and control NFS access to Windows files. When the Windows account is modified or deleted, it is instantly reflected in NFS access to the system.
Flexible Access Control
Explicit mapping allows NFS users to be individually associated with Windows accounts (one-to-one) or permits multiple NFS users to be associated with a single Windows account (several users to one). When automatic mapping is selected, DiskShare automatically associates like names between NFS and Windows accounts.
