Clock tick, also known as cycle, the smallest unit of time recognized by a device. For personal computers, clock ticks generally refer to the main system clock. If a PC is label 1 Ghz, this means that there are 1 G clock ticks (or cycles) per second. CPU may execute several instructions in a single clock tick.
