coprocessor

Coprocessor is a specially designed processing unit to assist the CPU in performing certain special tasks faster than they can be executed by software running in the main processor. For example, a math coprocessor, also known as numeric or floating-point coprocessor, performs mathematical computations, particularly floating-point operations. Other often-used coprocessors are for graphics and for networking.
