ISA bus: Industry Standard Architecture bus Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) bus refers to the bus using ISA in the IBM PC and compatibles. It is designed to connect peripheral cards to the motherboard. The protocols also allows for bus mastering although only the first 16 MB of main memory is available for direct access. Starting in the early 90s, ISA began to be replaced by the PCI local bus architecture. Most computers made today include both an AT bus for slower devices and a PCI bus for devices that need better bus performance.
