MDIX: Medium dependent interface crossover Medium Dependent Interface Crossover (MDIX or MDI-X), a version of the Medium Dependent Interface (MDI), enables connections between like devices (e.g., two hubs) by crossing the transmit-receive circuits. The straight-through cable connecting an MDI port on one hub or switch is inserted into an MDIX port on the other hub or switch. Both MDI-to-MDI and MDIX-to-MDIX connections use crossover cables. For example, an Ethernet port connection that allows networked end stations (i.e., PCs or workstations) to connect to each other using a null-modem, or crossover cable is an MDIX.
