Backup Profiler
The biggest challenge when implementing a disaster recovery plan is to identify and quantify all your important data assets. Backup Profiler helps you plan, implement, and monitor your disaster recovery strategy for all Windows and Macintosh computers by tracking the amount and type of data on client computers and the change rate of that data.
Backup Profiler gives you a summary report of all the data on your network. You can use that information to determine your storage hardware capacity requirements and to set up your backup software (ensuring important files are included in the backup and unimportant files are filtered out of the backup).
Using Backup Profiler can save you time and money on backup planning and implementation. More importantly, Backup Profiler can help avoid disaster by identifying important data on your client computers.
In order to use Backup Profiler, Neon Responders must be installed. Refer to Install Neon Responders for installation instructions or visit the Neon Responder web page [Neon Responders Introduction]for more information on Neon Responders.
Step 1 of 4: Draw a Map
Use the map you created in Draw Your Network Map or create a new map that includes the Neon Responders you would like to manage. Make sure you select the Neon Responder option in the TCP/IP services section of the Create New Network Map dialog box. All profiled computers must have Neon Responders installed. Otherwise, LANsurveyor cannot gain access to the necessary information on the computers.

Step 2 of 4: Select Computers to Profile
Highlight all the computers you would like to profile on your map. Use the Navigate menu to select Neon Responders or simply shift-click on the computer icons.

Step 3 of 4: Start Backup Profiler
Select Backup Profiler from the Reports menu.

Set your Backup Profiler parameters then click OK. You may choose to report on all files or just files modified within a specified number of days.

You can choose to run the report immediately or schedule the report for a later time.
Step 4 of 4: View and Save the Report
When the report is completed, the LANsurveyor Report window is opened and your report is displayed. All found file extensions that match your criteria are displayed as well as amount of space those files occupy.

To save the report information, select Export from the File menu. |
