Getting Started with CyberGauge
This tutorial is a step-by-step guide for configuring and using CyberGauge to monitor and secure any SNMP-based device, including routers, printers, and servers.
Note: You must have access to an SNMP-based device, including the name or IP address and the SNMP community string (which is like a password) for the device.
The functionality is identical between the Macintosh and Windows versions. Any user interface differences will be noted in the tutorials.
Step 1 of 5: Launch CyberGauge
Launch CyberGauge by double-clicking on the CyberGauge application icon.
When you launch CyberGauge the first time, you're prompted for the IP Address or Host Name of the first device you would like to monitor.

Step 2 of 5: Select the Device to Monitor
Simply type in the DNS name or IP Address, and then enter the SNMP Community String (or password) for the device. Most devices set their default community string to "public". Therefore, if you do not know your password, try public first.

After you enter the first device, you can easily add more devices to monitor. If you're using Macintosh, click on the "Add Device..." button.

If you are using Windows, click on the small Add button or select "Add Device" from the "Device" menu.

Step 3 of 5: View the Device Information
After you enter the device information, CyberGauge displays a "Device Info" window and the CyberGauge interface list with your device listed. The Device Info window shows the device information as well as information on any interfaces the device may have. In this example, we're monitoring a Neon Software router that has 4 network interfaces.
Bring the CyberGauge interfaces window to the front by clicking on it.

You can display the Device Info window for any device by double-clicking on the device name in the CyberGauge device window.
Step 4 of 5: Select the Interfaces to Monitor
CyberGauge allows you to monitor any or all interfaces for any device you choose to monitor. Simply click on the checkbox next to the names of the interface(s) you would like to monitor. For each interface you select, CyberGauge opens a monitor window.

CyberGauge shows the complete list of interfaces for your device. You may be unfamiliar with some of the interfaces CyberGauge finds. If you are unsure as to which interfaces to monitor, click on the checkbox next to the device name to select all the interfaces. It should become obvious to you which interfaces are in use by the level of traffic displayed in the graphs.
Step 5 of 5: Begin Monitoring
If you're running on Macintosh, click on the "Begin Monitoring" button to start monitoring.

If you're running on Windows, click on the green "Begin" button to begin monitoring.

CyberGauge will calibrate the graph and begin monitoring your device.
After monitoring your device for a while, you will see the throughput of your device(s).
