SEI: Software Engineering Institute

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University, with offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Frankfurt, Germany; Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, and Arlington, Virginia. The SEI publishes books on software engineering for industry, government and military applications and practices. They are most famous for the software Capability Maturity Model, (now CMMI), which ranks a software development environment according to its capability of producing quality software.
